Sahiwal police claim decline in crime rate

SAHIWAL: Sahiwal police have reported a decline in crime rate in 2025 as compared to 2024.

The district achieved a safety indicator index of 54.41 per cent while Gujranwala has 85.05, Multan 61.62, Lahore 63.18, Sargodha 66.70 and Sialkot 66.75 percent --means district is safe than several other districts of Punjab.

In first four months of current year, police enhanced public safety measures, including screening over 179,528 vehicles and checking of 98006 individuals through the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Squad (AVLS) and E-Police Posts, respectively.

The comparative analysis statement of crimes between April 30, 2024 and April 30, 2025, shows a comprehensive decline in major crimes.

Regional Police Officer Mahboob Rashid said the concept of community policing is working well. More than 121,000 citizens visited Kidmat Markaz during last four months through platforms like Tahfuaz Markaz, Meesaq centers and virtual women police stations.

The data claims decline in dacoity, robbery, car snatching, motorcycle theft, motorcycle snatching, rape, child abuse rape with minor girls, child abuse sodomy, child kidnapping.

It is said police had improved its response time after 15 emergency call services both in urban and rural localities. The emergency urban and rural response improved in year 2025 and came down to 17 and 21 minutes as compare to 27 and 33 minutes in 2024.

DPO Rana Tahir told Dawn there are 14 crime hot spots in Sahiwal where special police surveillance squad along with geo tagging through private cameras was done.
