LAHORE, May 5: The All Punjab Rickshaw Drivers Federation has announced an indefinite strike from Saturday (today) to protest against government plans for phasing out the two-stroke rickshaws and pressing for release of drivers arrested during the protest on Thursday.

Announcing this in a joint statement issued here on Friday, Federation Chairman Javed Sabir and Mutthida Rickshaw Drivers Union Chairman Asghar Khan said that teams had been constituted for making the strike successful. Rickshaws coming on the road would be deflated and drivers thrashed.

They said thar Lytton Road’s auto-rickshaw market would also remain closed on Saturday to express solidarity with rickshaw drivers.
