ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) on Monday said 4,684 consumers were caught stealing electricity and 442 meters found tampered.
The company claimed that the elimination of electricity theft will be ensured.
A campaign against electricity theft was launched in September 2023 and since then Iesco has carried out operations across the region, imposing fines on electricity thieves and registering dozens of police cases.
“Under the directives of Chief Executive Muhammad Naeem Jan, operational teams have been conducting surprise meter inspections in various areas on a daily basis.”
According to Iesco spokesperson Raja Asim, during the anti-electricity theft campaign 5,124 pilferers were caught, 4,684 of them found stealing electricity directly, and 442 meters found tampered.
“Legal action was taken against the culprits, resulting in the arrest of 2,612 electricity thieves by the police, and fines amounting to over Rs436.7 million were imposed,” he said.
The Iesco chief has appealed to the consumers to report any electricity theft to the relevant SDO office or at helpline 118, he added.
