LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Monday denied police further physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf social media activist Sanam Javed in a case of holding a rally and blocking road in violation of imposition of section 144.

Islampura police presented the activist before the court on expiry of her six-day remand.

The investigating officer filed a written application, requesting the court for more remand of the activist.

Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq appearing on behalf of the activist opposed the remand request, saying she had been subjected to political victimisation.

He said all the offences mentioned in the FIR were bailable.

He pointed out that the police added the offence of terrorism after 80 days of the registration of the case.

He asked the court to discharge the activist in the case and order her immediate release.

However, ATC Judge Irfan Haider turned down the requests of both – the prosecution and the defence – and sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand.

The police had registered the case against Sanam Javed and other PTI leaders including Aliya Hamza Malik, Nazia Baloch, advocate Intizar Panjotha for holding a rally and blocking the road outside Aiwan-i-Adl. She was arrested last week from outside Kot Lakhpat jail.
