PESHAWAR, May 3: Speakers at a workshop held here on Wednesday expressed concern over the situation in Dir district where women councillors were denied permission to attend local body meetings by their male relatives who attended the sessions on their (women’s) behalf. The consultative workshop was organised by Gender Voices.

Participants said that women’s political rights were denied because the writ of the government was weak. Ms Samina, IUCN’s representative, called for increasing their political awareness.—Bureau Report
