KARACHI, May 2: The father and son combination of Qamar Puri and Mubashir Puri displayed impressive show to clinch Karachi Bridge Association (KBA) Pairs event held here during the weekend at Aslam Bridge Hall.
The winning pair secured 64.89 per cent, leaving other competitors far behind.
Putting up their masterly approach from East-West direction, Qamar-Mubashir netted five clear top defeating two solid games with imaginative defence and bidding and making two slams in major, which were mostly played games by other competitors.
Asghar Naqvi-Mushahid finished second and Ebrahim Baig-Iqbal Haider third with 58.46 and 55.68 per cent scores respectively.
Ziaullah Baig-Hamid Mohiuddin are showing consistent performance throughout. They finished on top once again with a score of 60.85 per cent from the other direction. AK Bhurgri-Anwer Kazalbash scored 56.15 and Ghulam Muhammad-Raees scored 55.16 for the second and third berths respectively.
Meanwhile, Swiss Movement was played on Sunday and Monday. On the first day it was Kazalbash who was on top with 93 Victory Points. The pairs of Anwer Kazalbash-AK Bhurgri and Shoaib-Mazhar won three matches 18-22, 25-5 and 23-7 losing two 13-17, and 14-16.
Candyland finished second with a score of 88 VP while Shamsi occupied third place. However, Candyland having Zia, Hamid, Khalid, Mubashir and Hasan Jaffer avenged defeat on the second day and scored 78VP for the pride place.
They won two matches 25-5, 25-5, leveled one 15-15 and lost one 13-17 to their opponents. Kazalbash finished second with a score of 73 adding Nasir Ahmed in their fold. Four Bidders scored 69 to snatch third spot.—PPI
