DADU, May 1: Speakers at a seminar here on Monday said that residents of Kachho, Kohistan and Thar were facing problems related to drinking water, food and jobs.
The seminar, “drought, desertification, water and food security in Kachho”, was organised by the Society for Conservation and Protection of Environment in collaboration with the UNCCD, UNCED and UNCSD.
Renowned archaeologist Hakim Ali Shah Bukhari said that rainwater could be used for drinking and irrigation purposes.
Renowned writer Aziz Kingrani said that archaeological sites, including Rajo Dero, Koi Daro, Mari Khar Daro, Lakhi Ji Mari, Kaloi Daro, grave of Roomies’ existed in the Kachho belt but tourists were not visiting these sites due to the drought-like situation.
CDO of the BHP-Billiton Ali Akbar Rahimoo, Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum vice-president Ghulam Mustafa Mirani, Community Development Council president Manzoor Jamali, SCOPE chief executive Tanvir Arif, People’s Party Parliamentarians (ladies wing) district president Kulsoom Chandio, Ahmed Suhag, Bakht Jamal Soomro, Niaz Hingoro, Hameed Shahani, Razzaq Dahiri, Ghulam Abbas Joyo, Bahlil Shah, Gulsher Ahmed, Ghulam Qadir Leghari and Haji Khan Surhio spoke on the occasion.
