GUJRANWALA, April 29: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Saturday to have arrested three human smugglers, including a woman, from Gujranwala and Daska.

Two teams, headed by SIs Ahmar Naeem Sandhow and Riaz Janjua, raided their houses and arrested them. They have been involved in sending people to Muscat for the last many years.

Further investigation is under way.

The food controller said here on Saturday that about 36 procurement centres had been set up where food officials were assigned the task to achieve the target.

He pointed out that 14 procurement centres had been established at Gujranwala, 12 at Sialkot and Narowal and 10 at Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin.

He claimed that 19,919 matric tons of wheat had been purchased in Gujranwala, 3,000 in Sialkot, 2,337 in Gujrat. With that, he said, some 15 per cent target had so far been achieved.

BISE TEAM: A Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) team, led by its chairman Masudul Haq, on Saturday raided matric examination centres for boys and girls and removed a superintendent over his poor performance on Saturday.

Reports said the board chief paid surprise visits to a dozen examination centres at Tanda, Kakrali, Karyanwala, Jalalpur Jattan, Kotla Arab Ali Khan and Gujrat. He expressed his dismay over the poor performance of a superintendent and removed him immediately.

He directed the exam staff to perform their duty honestly without fear and favour.
