Principals, students awarded

LAHORE, April 29: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood distributed cash prizes of Rs1 million among heads of six institutions giving best examination results and 67 students for outstanding performance in declamation and ‘husn-i-qirat’ contests at Islamia College, Cooper Road here on Saturday.

Government Diyal Singh College principal Prof Muhammad Kaleem and Baghbanpura Government College for Women principal Dr Nausheen Saleem were declared best principals in the city and awarded Rs100,000 each.

Lahore Cantonment Government Islamia High School headmaster Haji Ghulam Ahmed, Mominpura Government Girls High School headmistress Rashida Khanum, Rakha Chndra Government Elementary School headmaster Mian Ahmed Ali and Canal View Government Girls Community Model School headmistress Zakia Amir were declared best heads and awarded Rs50,000 each.

Speaking on the occasion, the district nazim said the awards had been finalised after examining academic performance of 1,400 public sector schools and 32 colleges in the city.

It may be mentioned that EDO (education) Dr Asghar Chaudhry was declared the best principal for his performance as principal of the Government Science College, Wahdat Road.

However, Dr Chaudhry announced that he would sacrifice his cash prize of Rs100,000 for the sake of transparency because now he was serving as EDO (education).

He said that the first prize should be given to the second position holder. Consequently, the first prize went to Government Diyal Singh College Principal Prof Muhammad Kaleem.
