GILGIT, April 27. Two women who reportedly died on Tuesday as a result of police firing were buried amid protests on Wednesday.
The women, Farida and Zahurah, died after police opened fire on a mob protesting against establishment of district headquarters in Gorikote instead of Eidgah. Their burial took place 27 hours after their death.
Sources said that the protesters were demanding of the district administration to refrain from issuing tender forms for construction of government buildings at Gorikote.
They said the legal heirs of the deceased women had lodged a compliant with PS Astore for registration of an FIR against the deputy commissioner, SP, assistant commissioner, executive engineer B&R division and SHO Astore.
Meanwhile, members of the Astore action committee have called upon the government to pay compensation to the legal heirs of the victims and direct police to register a case on their complaint.
The sources said that troops continued patrolling the area where the situation was still tense.
