Woman’s body found in Khanpur reservoir

HARIPUR: A woman was found dead in the Khanpur reservoir after remaining missing fora fortnight, police said on Friday.

Her family alleged her murder by in-laws.

Family sources said Hameeda Jan married Shakil Ahmad of Choeevillage in Khanpur tehsil around 15 years ago and hadfour minor children with him.

They said the woman’s husband had been present in Dubai for a job for around 18 months.

Hameeda’s father-in-law Manzoor Elahi claimed that he found her to be missing from the bedroomon Feb 23 morningon return from a local mosque after offering Fajr prayer.

He added that he along with family members and neighbours searchedfor Hameeda but didn’t find her.

He reported the matter to the Khanpur police who registered a kidnapping case against unidentified people but failed to trace her.

On Friday morning, people found the woman’s body floating on the surface of Khanpur reservoir and informed the police about it. The body was later shifted to a localhospital for postmortem.

The hospital sources said the body was 10-12-day-old.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s mother, Noor Bibi, alleged that her daughter was killed by her in-laws. She accused the police of poorly investigating the case.
