KARACHI: 2,940 houses razed in 4 months

KARACHI, April 25: With the demolition of 40 houses on April 22 last at the Allah Wali Colony, Block 6, PECHS, Jamshed Town, the number of houses razed since January this year in various parts of the city by the city government has risen to 2,940, a report released on Tuesday by the Urban Resource Centre said.

The report quoted Haji Rafique, a community activist, who said that no compensation or alternative land were given to people and their houses were bulldozed in a brutal way.

The settlement was established in n1954. According to Khawer Din, a general councillor from the area, a case was in pending at the Sindh High Court and the next hearing was to be held on April 27.—PPI
