HOBART (Australia), Oct 16: Germany has yet to lose a match in field hockey’s Junior World Cup and qualified for the semifinals with a 7-3 demolition of Korea here Tuesday.
The Koreans’ schoolboy goalkeeper had no answer to Germany’s experienced strikers. All seven German forwards found the net.
Argentina meanwhile upset the Netherlands 3-2.
The Dutch were far from sharp. They scored first but then relaxed, allowing Argentina to hit a quick reply and punish midfield turnovers to go to the break 3-1 ahead.
The Netherlands take on India Wednesday while Australia tackle Argentina to determine which team from Pool F progresses to the semifinals.
In the lower half of the tournament draw, New Zealand blew a 2-1 half-time lead against France to be 3-2 down with 10 minutes to play.
The Kiwis though dug deep to triumph 4-3 and create a perfectly balanced Pool G where all four teams are tied with three points and zero goal difference.
Wednesday’s matches in this pool see New Zealand take on Ireland and Canada meet France to break the deadlock.
Malaysia and South Africa played a 1-1 draw Tuesday.
The winners of the Wednesday clashes between Scotland and South Africa and Malaysia and Chile will decide which two teams play off for positions nine to 12 from this pool.
Tuesday’s results:
South Korea 3 Germany 7
