Pakistan overwhelm Iran

ISLAMABAD, April 22: Pakistan outplayed Iran 15-2 to notch up their second successive victory of the Asia Cup baseball championship on Friday night.

The home side dominated the match right from the start. As per rules the game ended after the seventh innings as Pakistan's lead was more than 10 runs.

Basit Murtaza, Latif Mughal and Sumair Zawar played an important role in victory as did Hafiz Usman and Asjid Mehmood as pitchers.

On the opening day of the championship on Thursday Pakistan had beaten Hong Kong 8-6.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka thrashed Iran 13-5 on Saturday in the fourth match.

Sri Lanka took a lead of five runs in the second innings while Iran opened their account only in the fifth in which they scored three runs.

A match between Hong Kong and Thailand was being played under lights at the time of this report's filing.

Main scorers: Pakistan Basit Murtaza 2 runs (one home run), Latif Mughal (3), Sumair Zawar (3), Kamran Mahboob (2), Farooq Khan (2); Iran: Mahran 1 run (home), Ameer Haidry (1).

Sri Lanka: Shalitha (3), Yasashvi 2 (one home run), Anlanka (2), Pradeep (2); Iran: A. Hamayun (2), Babrak (2), Ihsan Saba (1).
