Lightning kills three of a family

BAHAWALPUR, April 21: Three women members of a family were killed while a youth sustained burns by lightning near Uch Sharif on Thursday night. It is reported that the family of Ghulam Husain was sleeping in the courtyard of his house in Peer Bakhsh Basti in the suburbs of Uch Sharif, about 70 kilometres from here, when it started raining. The family woke up and started moving inside the house when lightning struck killing his daughters-in-law Zarina, 18, Aasia, 20, and daughter Mansab, 16, on the spot. His son Abid suffered burns.

SOCIAL SECURITY: A large number of industrial units in the district owe Rs70 million to social security department.

This was stated at the monthly meeting of district labour and human resources board here on Friday.

Taking serious notice of the default, acting DCO Ikramullah Khan warned the defaulters of strict action and directed the department to ensure speedy recovery of the amount as early as possible.

SUICIDE: A married woman Shamim, 35, of Mauza Shahnal near here, died at the BVH on Friday.—Correspondent
