RAJANPUR, April 21: Six people, including three of a family, were killed while two others sustained serious injuries in an accident on Indus Highway near Jampur grid station on Friday.

A speeding trailer (TLE-231), after smashing into a motorcycle and a motorcycle-rickshaw coming from the opposite side, hit motorcycles parked along the road. As a result, Hazoor Bakhsh, his wife Shamim, infant son Baqar, Mohkam Din, driver Rashid and Tanvir Ahmed died instantly while Rukhsana and Sajjad received serious injuries. They were rushed to the local THQ Hospital in serious condition. The deceased family was on their way by their bike while the other victims were travelling on the three-wheeler.

Dozens of people have lost their lives in accidents on the under-construction Indus Highway during the last two years. Accidents are occurring frequently as contractors have not made any alternative arrangements for motorists. As of now only 50 per cent work has been completed while another one year is required for the completion of the road.

The people have taken out several demonstrations to protest against the inordinate delay in the construction of the road but the authorities have paid no heed.
