Constable held for extorting money from fellow policeman
RAWALPINDI: A police official posted at Race Course police station was arrested by anti-corruption establishment (ACE) on Wednesday night on the charges of extorting money from his fellow police official.
Junaid Arshad, a resident of Tench Bhatta, lodged an FIR with the ACE, stating that he had been posted in the Race Course police station, and had been facing cases registered against him in the past.
He claimed that since his posting, the constable had been demanding money and threatening to implicate him in a drugs case, if his demand was not met.
Junaid further claimed that Babar had already extorted Rs200,000 from him and Rs100,000 from Hafizur Rehman Niazi, and in addition he had taken another Rs100,000 from him and was still demanding Rs50,000 bribe.
He said that he no longer wanted to pay Rs50,000, therefore, requested legal action against the accused.
Following the complaint, the district and sessions Judge appointed magistrate Azmat Hayat to initiate legal proceedings against the constable.
The ACE team, led by the magistrate, conducted a raid and recovered Rs50,000 from the constable. According to the FIR, the recovered currency notes were the same ones given by Junaid Arshad as a bribe.
Constable Khan also sought help from his colleagues to avert the arrest, but his efforts proved unproductive as he was taken into custody by the ACE team.
