LARKANA, April 17: The Sindh Local Government Commission (SLGC) has began a probe into financial dealings of a former district naib nazim.
Sources in the district government alleged on Monday that the former district naib nazim, Nazeer Ahmed Bughio, had availed himself of many facilities in violation of the Sindh Local Government, Nazims, Naib Nazims and Members (honoraria and privilege) Rules 2001.
The director-general (DG) implementation, monitoring and evolution cell (IM& EC) of the commission, Iqbal Ahsan Zaidi, in a letter to the district coordination officer on April 15, 2006, had pointed out these anomalies.
Mr Zaidi asked the DCO of Larkana to calculate the expenditures of the naib nazim during his four-year tenure and recover the amount from the beneficiaries. According to the letter, the DCO will be held responsible in case of failure.
It said the commission had approached the law department regarding the entitlement of district naib nazim and the district governments would be apprised of the legal position shortly in this regard.
Sources told this reporter that the DCO Larkana had asked the district naib nazim’s secretariat to work out details of expenditures and it (the secretariat) began work on the subject on Monday.
The commission has also sought complete information about the expenditures so far incurred by the sitting what it said ‘so-called’ chief whip.
The concept of chief whip was not reflected anywhere in the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 2001 or the rules made there under, the DG of SLGC said and asked the DCO to discontinue the facilities extended to the chief whip forthwith.
Babu Serwar Siyal had been claiming himself as chief whip in the Larkana district council. District Naib Nazim Munwar Ali Abro in a letter to the SLGC had pointed out this.
Meanwhile, the commission has sent a copy of the letter to the district nazim Larkana advising him to maintain financial discipline as required under Section 18 (1)(g) of the ordinance 2001.
