GUJRANWALA, April 17: The Supreme Court on Monday disposed of an ASI’s petition against confirming interim bails of two dacoits by a local court directing him to move the Lahore High Court in accordance with the law.
ASI Afzaal Ahmed had informed the Supreme Court chief justice that he had arrested dacoits after an encounter and got registered a case against them with the Satellite Town police station a few days ago. But the local court confirmed interim bails of the accused without their arrest by the police.
However, DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq and the AAG appeared before the Supreme Court and pleaded their contention.
Meanwhile, Gujranwala ADSJ Abid Hussain Qureshi denied that he was summoned by the Supreme Court.
HUMAN SMUGGLERS: Around 11 human smugglers were arrested by an FIA (passport cell) raiding team here on Monday.
Reports said the interior ministry had directed FIA deputy director Akram Naeem Bharoka to nab the accused after launching an operation against them. He constituted for this purpose a raiding party comprising SIs Ahmer Naeem, Riaz, Shafiq and Shahid Habib. They conducted raids at the residences of the accused and arrested them. Those arrested were identified as Shafi, Latif, Rana Shahid, Nawaz, Afzal, Aslam, Soni Gujjar, Goga Jatt, Munir, Arshad and Javed Baryar. While two deportees — Muhammad Amjad of Daska and Muhammad Irfan of Gujranwala — were also arrested.
The arrested accused were involved in sending youths to Dubai and other Gulf states through boats after extorting from them Rs25,000 to Rs30,000 each.
Mr Bharoka said the operation against the human smugglers would continue.
TIME GIVEN: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 gave a week’s time to heirs of three condemned prisoners for a compromise with heirs of deceased on the request of the complainant here on Monday.
Reports said that court had handed down death sentence to Ilyas Patwari, Ghulam Abbas and Asif and also issued their death warrants. While complainant Noor Ahmad Chehal appeared before court and requested the judge to provide opponents a chance of compromise.
