ISLAMABAD, April 17: Some people are trying to block the path of progress and prosperity by opposing unprecedented steps being taken in Balochistan, says Senator Sarwar Khan Kakar.

He was speaking in a PTV programme.

The senator said that the Gwadar deep seaport, the Costal Highway, the Katchi Canal, the Mirani Dam, and a network of highways were some of the remarkable projects which would change the life of the Baloch people.

Higlighting the fast pace of progress on various projects, he said that the Coastal Highway had been completed while the Gwadar port would be formally inaugurated within a couple of months.

He also pointed out that the network of highways and motorways would link Karachi and Gwadar port with Central Asian states and usher in an era of enhanced economic activity in the region.

He said the Katchi Canal would bring about 900,000 acres of barren land under cultivation in the province, adding that the Mirani Dam was being constructed in an area where there had been chronic and severe water shortage.

He said that the dam would not only increase the prospects of agricultural activities in the area but it would also improve the underground water table level.

Stressing that only some people with vested interests were involved in anti-state activities, he said that on the whole, the people of Balochistan were satisfied with the overall pace of progress in the province.— APP
