Toba tehsil naib nazim disqualified

TOBA TEK SINGH, April 12: On the intervention of the Supreme Court, Toba tehsil naib nazim Mian Asif Zaheer was on Wednesday disqualified and election to this slot will be held again.

In union council No 48 (Pirmahal), Sayen Muhammad Khalid and Mian Asif Zaheer were elected nazim and naib nazim, respectively. Defeated canidates Seth Naeem Akhtar (nazim) and Chaudhry Muhammad Amjad (naib nazim) had filed petition with the Lahore High Court on the plea that Sayen Muhammad Khalid was an administrator of Pirmahal market committee, he was not eligible to contest.

The LHC had decided that nazim Sayen Muhammad and naib nazim Mian Asif had been disqualified after which both had filed appeal before the supreme court.

On Wednesday, Supreme court bench comprising chief justice Justice Iftkhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Mian Shukrullah Jan and Justice Syed Jamshed Ali decided that both nazim Sayeen Muhammad Khalid and naib nazim Mian Asif Zaheer have been disqualified and defeated candidates Seth Naeem Akhtar and Choudry Muhammad Amjad have been declared elected.
