Former US President Donald Trump is currently leading in the states of Kentucky and Indiana as votes are being counted and polls are less than an hour from closing, according to Reuters.

In Kentucky, Trump has 65.9 per cent of the vote with 35,417 votes, while Vice President Kamala Harris has 32.9pc of the vote 17,700 votes. These totals are 3pc of the expected votes counted, Reuters says.

In Indiana, Trump has 62.5pc of the vote with 104,252 votes, while Harris has 36.5pc of the vote with 60,835 votes. These totals are 6pc of the expected votes counted, Reuters says.

Earlier, CNN reported that both candidates tied with three votes each in the tiny New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch, kicking off Election Day in one of the first places in the country to report its presidential preference.
