Should expect US policy continuity in South Asia no matter who wins: expert

Michael Kugelman, an expert on Washington’s relations with South Asian nations, has said “broadly speaking, we should expect US policy continuity in South Asia no matter who wins the election.”

“That’s in great part because the US Indo-Pacific policy now drives US policy across Asia and it has the buy-in of both parties,” Kugelman said in a post on X.

“[It] was launched in Trump era and maintained by Biden,” Kugelman said.

He said that there would be departures from the current policy, especially in terms of approaches to specific countries given that the two candidates “have very different worldviews”.

“But the broader regional approach is unlikely to change,” he added.
