Abbas joins Shabbir for leaderboard

PESHAWAR, April 8: Abbas Ali came from behind to join Shabbir Iqbal at the top of the leaderboard with a card of eight under par 136 over 36 holes on the second day of the 28th CAS Open Golf Championship being played over 54-holes at PAF Golf Course on Saturday. Abbas who was lagging behind the leader with his opening day score of 70, two under par over 18 holes, but after carding a vital 66, six under par, he joined leader Shabir Iqbal at 136 each.

Shahid Javed Khan the joint first round leader slipped to 11th by adding 74, two over par, to his overnight 66 to make a total of 140, four under par.

Fancied Mohammad Munir, Imdad Hussain and Shahid Javed were let down by their putting.

Shabir carded 33 at front and 37 at back nine with four birdies and two miss strokes. Abbas posted cards of 33 each at front and back nine including six birdies despite hard pin placing.

Amjad Yousaf and Latif Masih trailing at second with 139 each, five under par. Matloob Ahmed, M. Tariq, Naseer Khan, Sajid, Shahid Haleem, and Shahid shared the positions on their 140 score each.

In the amateur gross, M. Safdar with his gross score of 144 leading the way, followed Waseem Rana (145), Tariq Mehmmood (149), Saud Khan (152), Iqbal Wali (153).

In the Amateur Net, Arbab Usman, a seven handicapper, with his net score 65 leading the way, followed by Omar Arbab 12-HCP with 69 while Abu Bakar (7-HCP) was at third with his net score 70.

Ishtiaq Ahmed carded 83 gross, followed by Sabur Sethi (85) and Rahim Bali (87) in the 13-18 gross.

In the Net veterans Safi (HCP-8) was the leader chased by Abdul Haq and Col. (R) Fassih Ali Anwar while in gross Abdul Haq was the leader, followed by Safi and Fassih.

Imran Rasool led the boys net section. Osama Warrich and Azam Khattak trailed in second and third spot. Osama Warrich led the gross category followed by Omar and Azam.—APP
