ISLAMABAD, April 7: Pakistan Muslim League leader and former district nazim of Chitral Shahzada Mohiuddin has criticised a non-governmental organisation for having used its resources against his party during the district government election, which he lost to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.

In a letter addressed to PML secretary-general Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Mr Mohiuddin demanded action against officials of the NGO for their involvement in local politics and using the platform of the organisation for personal goals.

“The deputy programme manager of Focus Humanitarian Organisation has persistently violated stated official mandate of his organization by openly canvassing for the MMA in the October 25 local bodies election in Chitral in which I was a candidate for the district nazim’s post. The NGO official arranged and addressed public gatherings in Garam Chashma before the election in support of the MMA candidate,” the former nazim alleged.

It is for the first time that the PML leader has pointed finger at an NGO in the valley. Usually the MMA has been in the forefront in criticising the role of non-governmental organisations working in education and health sectors in the impoverished district, accusing them of working on foreign agenda and spreading vulgarity.

The PML leader also called upon the Election Commission to ensure that no one was allowed to gain political mileage using welfare organisations.
