SAHIWAL, April 6: A man was murdered in the engagement ceremony of his son in Chak 82/3-L on Thursday. Bashir was celebrating the engagement ceremony of his son Asif Nadeem after breaking earlier engagement with the daughter of a relative Talib Husain.

Talib came to the ceremony along with his sons Abid, Khalid and Sajid. They reportedly shot Bashir to death and fled from the scene.

Yousafwala police have registered a case with no arrest.

CONVICTED: The additional district and sessions judge on Thursday convicted three people of murder while acquitted their three accomplices by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Convict Aslam Awan was handed down death sentence and Rs200,000 fine, while his accomplices Amin and Zafar Husain were given 28 years’ rigorous imprisonment with Rs100,000 fine each. In case of default in payment of fine, the convicts would have to undergo six months’ rigorous imprisonment.

Sabir, Tariq and Faiz Sultan were acquitted.

According to prosecution, on July 14, 2003, in Chak 11/4-L the convicts had killed Abid Husain, a PML office-bearer from Kassowal, and injured his brother to avenge the murder of Malak Walayat, the father of Aslam Awan.

POLICEMEN PUNISHED: The additional district and sessions judge ordered attachment of salaries of three policemen and asked the district accounts officer to report on April 17.

Noorshah police station SHO Inspector Israr Khalid Ghuman, Muharrar Muhammad Ashraf and Naib Muharrar Munir Ahmad of Yousafwala police station failed to produce the record of murder cases.

The court took the action on a contempt of court petition.
