LAHORE, Feb 4: The Fisheries Department has proposed affiliation of its Fisheries Research and Training Institute, Manawan, to the Government College, Lahore, and launch a degree programme in fisheries and aquaculture.

The proposal has been sent by Dr Muhammad Ayub, the Fisheries director general, Punjab, in a letter sent to the GC principal on Monday. The DG said the department had been extending its research facilities to GC’s MSc and MPhil students for many years.

Dr Ayub claimed that FRTI was the only institute imparting research and training in fisheries and aquaculture. He said no university was offering a degree or diploma course in this field.

He said affiliation with the GC would help the institute enhance the research standards and help meet the increasing demand for trained manpower in fisheries and aquaculture.
