PESHAWAR, March 31: Staff at the Governor’s House here on Friday foiled the attempt by a woman to commit suicide as a protest against Peshawar District Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali.

Zari Begum of Sheikhabad and her relatives had gathered in front of the Governor’s House to protest against what they termed excesses of the nazim. During the protests, the woman was about to douse herself with kerosene oil, when the staff posted at the Governor House overpowered her.

Relative of the woman chanted slogans against the nazim and warned that they would continue protests unless he returned the land occupied by him illegally.

The staff assured the woman that they would inform the governor about the allegation against Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali and help solve the issue within four days.

Later, talking to journalists, Zari Begum accused the nazim of usurping her commercial plot on Grand Trunk Road.

She blamed that the son-in-law of the district nazim wanted to build a commercial plaza on the plot.

This reporter attempted to contact the nazim several times on his cellular phone, but nobody responded.

Begum Zari, in her press conference nine days ago, had threatened to commit self-immolation against the act of Haji Ghulam Ali and blamed the city police for evacuating her family from their property on gunpoint.

She said that the disputed plot was in their possession since 1962, but now one Rahatullah had claimed the ownership of the commercial plot with the help of Mr Ghulam Ali.

SUICIDE: A young woman committed suicide in Achini Payan village in Pishtakhara area on Friday morning.

Police officials said that the mother of two minor children, Musarrat Bibi, wife of Faqir Gul, had committed suicide due to poverty.

Faqir Gul told the police that he and his father had gone for work in the morning, but after a few hours his brother had informed that Musarrat Bibi had committed suicide with a pistol.
