ISLAMABAD: Dozens of students on Wednesday staged protest against the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), accusing it of issuing faulty results of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) exam.

The students staged protest outside the FBISE building and raised slogans.

This year a large number of students failed in the mathematics paper while many complained about low marks in practical papers.

The acting secretary of the federal board and other officials held a meeting with the protesting students after which the FBISE issued a notification, stating: “Any student, if dissatisfied after rechecking of his/her paper, will be shown his/her answer scripts.”

Sources said the protesting students also demanded that the inquiry report be shared with them, which the board had ordered after the scam surfaced.

Meanwhile, FBISE Chairman Syed Junaid Akhlaq said in case any discrepancy was found in rechecking, the rechecking fee would be refunded.

He said there was no fault in the results, but “yes, I do agree, this year there were many complaints of students about the math paper”.

To a query about the alleged scam about 62 answer sheets being replaced by the board staff last month, he said it was a small attempt, which was intercepted timely and action was also taken.

“The issue had nothing to do with the results,” Mr Akhlaq said, adding that, “our result is transparent and authentic and we have also decided to show the answer sheets to the students”.
