GUJRANWALA, March 29: Seven family members, including three girls and their mother, were shot dead on Wednesday by their relatives over an agriculture land dispute in Lallopur, Aimanabad.

Reports said that deceased Muhammad Rafiq and accused Muhammad Ali had been at daggers drawn for the last several years. On Wednesday, assailants entered the house of Rafiq by scaling the boundary wall of an adjacent mosque. The intruders opened fire on inmates, killing Mumtaz Begum, daughters Alia (17), Saira (16), sons Abu Sufian (14) and Rizwan (11) instantly and injuring Sadaf (6) seriously. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, in critical condition where she died.

Later, the accused went to the outhouse of Rafiq and also shot him dead on the spot.

Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.

ACCIDENT: An elderly woman was killed and six other passengers injured in a road accident in Naushera Virkan on Wednesday.

Reports said a Sheikhupura-bound wagon overturned near Garmola Virkan as a result of which Mukhtaran Bibi (60) was killed on the spot while six others suffered injuries. They were rushed to civil hospital in Naushera Virkan where the condition of Munir Ahmad and Imran was stated to be serious.

Appointment: The health department on Wednesday sent its recommendations for the appointment of 31 medical officers at basic health units in remote areas following completing interviews.

Reports said these medical officers had given their consent to work at BHUs in remote areas as the Punjab chief minister had already announced a package for them, including a salary of Rs25,000 per month.

As many as 56 posts of medical officers were lying vacant in the district while the remaining 25 doctors would be recruited later.

SUICIDE: A jobless youth committed suicide here on Wednesday.

Reports said Muhammad Jamil of Majid Colony was jobless. On demanding pocket money, his parents snubbed him and asked him to seek any job. He was run over and killed by an express train.

Police have handed over his body to the family.
