PESHAWAR: Members of the national and provincial assemblies from the provincial capital were informed on Wednesday that Peshawar’s water table had dropped 30 feet over the past six years.

The lawmakers, who attended a meeting at the office of the Peshawar division commissioner, were briefed about the water situation of the provincial capital, according to statement.

The lawmakers were informed that the underground water table of the provincial capital had alarmingly dropped 30 feet over the last six years and it was likely to deteriorate further.

They were informed that a large number of tube wells had been rendered dysfunctional due to dropping of the water table.

The meeting was informed that the drinking water from under-construction Mohmand Dam could be supplied to the provincial capital at a cost of Rs16-20 billion, and the project was likely to take five years to be completed.
