First day washed out in Colombo

COLOMBO, March 26: The first day of opening Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was washed out on Sunday after heavy rains in the capital city. The unseasonal downpours were so heavy that the vast majority of the Sinhalese Sports Club was still submerged under water when the umpires, Rudi Koertzen of South Africa and Australia’s Steve Davis, called off play at 1pm local time

The players of both teams remained at the team hotel throughout the morning.

The second and final Test starts on April 3 in Kandy.
