KARACHI, March 26: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that in an effort to save the country, the MQM once again extends its hands of friendship to those political leaders who have plundered the national exchequer if they return the looted money.

According to a party press release received here on Saturday, he made the offer to this effect while addressing a gathering held in connection with the Muttahida’s 22nd foundation day celebrations in London on Friday.

Mr Hussain said that Pakistan was passing through a “very critical stage” and urged the government to revise the country’s foreign policy. “We have to bring an end to the policy of considering India, Afghanistan and Iran our enemies,” he added.

He urged political leaders to come forward and work together for the elimination of feudal system in the country.

Meanwhile, the MQM, during the 22nd foundation day celebrations in London on Friday, adopted the following resolutions:

— To promote national integrity and to alleviate the grievances of smaller provinces it is vital to provide full provincial autonomy as soon as possible.

— To respect the aspirations and wishes of the people of all provinces and grant their legitimate rights in the National Finance Commission Award and distribution of water.

— Resolve the Waziristan and Balochistan issues through dialogue and restrain from the use of brutal forces.

— To control the spiralling cost of living such as rise in sugar price, increase in utility rates and to reduce the unemployment, it is essential to take protective steps and provide relief to the poor people and cut down on the non-development expenses.

— Strongly condemns the publication of blasphemous cartoons and demands that the European Union and other countries of the world should refrain from publishing such materials that may result in hurting the sentiments of the followers of any religion.

— Expresses its concern over the unsatisfactory relations of Pakistan with her neighbouring countries and calls for better understanding and prosperous relations with our neighbours through improved and revised foreign policy.

— Release of funds for providing aid to the affectees of earthquake disaster in the NWFP and Azad Kashmir and ensure that the process of aid distribution is transparent and fair.

— In view of the difficulties faced by the people of Sindh, steps should be taken towards the opening of Indian visa office in Karachi as soon as possible.
