SIALKOT, March 25: The Hajipura police have failed to arrest its eight officials who are allegedly involved in the custodial killing of youth Shah Muhammad (22) despite a lapse of one month.
Speaking at a press conference here almost two weeks ago, Gujranwala Range DIG Zafar Iqbal Lak had tendered apology over this torture. He had visited the victim family in Rangpura and assured them of early arrest of the accused policemen.
The DIG had also directed the Sialkot police to ensure immediate arrest of the policemen.
The victim family has appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and the chief minister to provide them justice.
Reports said ASIs Gulzar Rana, Nawaz Tiwana and six other constables of Hajipura police station had arrested Shah Muhammad from his house at Jandar Bazaar of the city for his alleged involvement in a dacoity incident.
The police officials had tortured him to death. The medical report confirmed the torture as well.
When contacted, Sialkot DPO Dr Tariq Khokhar told Dawn that the accused police officials would be arrested soon.
