GUJRANWALA, March 25: A BSc student was kidnapped for ransom by unidentified people in Garjakh here on Saturday. Reports said that Aqeel Ahmad of Government Islamia College was on his way home from the college when armed men abducted him. On the report of his heirs, Model Town police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating. Till the filing of this report, the student could not be recovered.
LOOTED: Two outlaws looted a jewellery shop in Sarrafa Bazaar on broad daylight here on Saturday.
Armed outlaws entered the upper storey jewellery shop of Ayub, tied salesmen with a rope and locked them in a room. Later, they gathered the jewellery worth Rs225,000 and escaped.
Kotwali police have instituted a case against unidentified dacoits.
ARRESTED: Dulley police on Saturday claimed to have rounded up the main accused involved in kidnapping for ransom the son of an industrialist.
The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 also gave a three-day physical remand of the accused.
Police said that accused Abdul Qadeer of Nausher Sansi Road had kidnapped minor boy Zubair, the son of Mian Abdul Haleem, some 20 days back. The accused had demanded Rs3 million ransom for his release which the family had paid to the accused.
On receiving information that the accused was present at Alipur by-pass intersection, a police party led by SI Mansab Ali raided there and arrested the accused.
HEARING: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 continued hearing of the Sialkot jail incident case here on Saturday.
Deputy superintendent Safdar Husain said the incident had taken place due to the negligence of jail assistant superintendents and wardens who were deputed for checking. He claimed that he did not know Shahid alias Kala.
Adjourning the case, judge Mujahid Mustaqim Ahmad summoned the three witnesses on next hearing on March 31.
Meanwhile, the same court on Saturday issued black warrant of a condemned prisoner and fixed April 13 for his execution.
Abdul Latif had burnt alive a girl for not fulfilling his wishes in Garjakh on Dec 2, 2004. While the court handed down him the death sentence.
