LAHORE, March 22: All arrangements have been completed for a PML workers’ convention to be held at the Minar-i-Pakistan on Thursday to mark the beginning of the centenary celebrations of the party formed on this day in Dhakka in 1906. Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi visited the venue for the convention on Wednesday and expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements.
Secretary-general Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, law minister Raja Basharat, information technology minister Aleem Khan, nazim Mian Amer and chief secretary Salman Siddiq also accompanied him.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, PML president Shujaat Husain, chief ministers Pervaiz Elahi, Dr Arbab Rahim and Jam Mohammad Yousaf will address the convention and highlight the performance of the PML government since its installation in 2002. Policies to be followed in the future will also be outlined by the leadership.
At the Minar-i-Pakistan, the chief minister said the convention would be a reminder for the youth of the sacrifices rendered for the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent. The participants, he said, would renew their pledge to set up an Islamic welfare state.
He said the convention would also strengthen the party and create unity among its supporters.
A number of delegates from other provinces reached Lahore on Wednesday. Many of them visited the Muslim League House.
