OKARA, March 21: On the appeal of the Pakistan Medical Association, Punjab, doctors observed a three-hour token strike and staged a sit-in in front of the PMA’s house in Fateh Town on Tuesday for the acceptance of their demands.
The protesting doctors were carrying banners inscribed with their demands that the exploitation of doctors must be stopped in the name of autonomy to their institutions, they must be given permanent jobs, health budget be increased for the provision of free medicine in government hospitals, a complete ban be imposed on quackery, promotions be made on merit, and regular employees with postgraduate qualification be appointed in specialists cadres.
PMA president Dr Mohammad Azam Khan said the token strike would be observed on every Tuesday till the acceptance of their demands. —Correspondent
