PESHAWAR, March 21: The provincial government will unveil its reconstruction strategy for earthquake-hit areas at a seminar to be held in a couple of days. A senior government official said that the seminar would be held either in Abbottabad or Mansehra.

Representatives of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority and Nespak would attend the seminar, the official said.

Identification of areas considered to be fit for reconstruction is one of the major issues to be discussed at the seminar.

The official said that the federal government had recently arranged a briefing for the provincial government on the subject but seismological reports were found to be too technical and it was decided to hold a seminar to inform the public about the same. The reports, contained in 12 volumes, identify areas situated on the fault line and unfit for reconstruction.

These areas might include parts of Balakot, Mansehra among other places.

“But we do not want to create an unnecessary panic. We do not want to encourage people to rebuild knowing fully well that the areas could be dangerous. Therefore, it was decided to hold a seminar to inform the people”, the official said.—Bureau
