PESHAWAR, March 20: The government has allocated an amount of Rs1,081.5 million for construction of roads to open up inaccessible and far-flung regions of the Federally-Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata).

A total of 162 communication development schemes, including 143 ongoing schemes costing Rs 9,19.28 million and 19 new schemes with an allocation of Rs162.22 million, planned in ADP 2005-06, were in progress in the Fata, official sources in the Governor’s Secretariat said.

In Khyber Agency, the construction of BT Road from Jamrud-Mullagori to Landikotal having a length of 10 km was in its final stages besides making a 10-km-long road two-way in Bara Bazaar in Khyber Agency. He said construction of a road from Mathra to Seri Kandao was also in progress. The government has also planned to construct several 10-km-long roads in FR Peshawar to put the rugged regions on the road to progress and development.

He said that under the new communication scheme, a 19-km-long road in Central Kurram from Tuodo Obo to Tabai Khanikhel would be repaired and metalled to explore the tourist-friendly image of Fata.

For Orakzai Agency, he said the government had planned to construct a 23-km-long bridge (RCC) on the Shahukhel Ghilijo-Shingled Road from Mir Ghara to Hassanzai Dara and a seven-km-long road (Mitta Khan Palaosi Road).

The official said a 10-km-long-metalled road in FR Kohat and a 25-km-long road in the North Waziristan Agency would be constructed to open up the region for trade and tourists.

An eight-km-long road from Zarwam to Shahnari, FR Bannu, and a 15-km-long road would be constructed in the South Waziristan Agency.—APP
