Mepco team held hostage, tortured by power thieves
BAHAWALPUR: A Multan Electric Power Company team, led by SDO Faiz Hameed of Bahawalnagar sub-division, was allegedly attacked and held hostage at gunpoint by suspected power thieves during a raid at Dhadhian.
According to a Mepco press release, SDO Faiz Hameed, meter inspector Adeel Raz, meter reader Muhammad Ahmed, and lineman Waqas Rashid were held hostage. The attackers tortured the Mepco team members and broke the windscreen of the official vehicle.
On an emergency call, the Bahawalnagar Saddar police reached the spot and rescued the Mepco officials.
The SDO has submitted an application for the registration of cases against the attackers and power thieves, the press release added.
Meanwhile, Mepco SE operation Multan circle Amjad Nawaz Bhatti suspended three officials Jan Muhammad, Saood Qaisar and Allah Rakhan of three Multan sub-divisions for their alleged negligence in their respective duties to repair the transformers, causing a great deal of inconvenience to thousands of consumers.
RAPE: Two women were allegedly raped in separate incidents in Mailsi and Gaggo in Vehari district on Tuesday.
According to police sources, in the first incident, a guest ‘S’ allegedly raped the wife of his host in his absence in his house at Aziz Fahim village in the limits of Miranpur police station.
The victim in the absence of her husband allowed his friend to stay for a night who allegedly raped her. The Miranpur police registered a case against the suspect.
In the second incident in the suburb village 267/EB of Gaggoo, a woman was asleep in the courtyard
of her house when suspect ‘A’ along with his accomplice ‘K’ scaled the boundary wall and allegedly raped her.
The police claimed to have arrested the main suspect who alleged that the woman had called him to her house, where her husband and brother-in-law tortured them and handed them over to police.
The police said doctors have confirmed torture and a rape case has also been registered. Further investigation is under way.
