HYDERABAD, March 15: Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr Saeeda Malik has stressed the need for erasing the black stain of karo-kari, which had tainted the country’s image, from the face of society.
Sindh is a land of saints and a citadel of peace and love where women are held in high esteem, said the minister while speeking at a seminar on Tuesday to mark the International Women’s Day organized by her department in collaboration with the University of Sindh at the Institute of Sindhology.
She said modern age could never tolerate karo-kari. A woman deserved due respect as a wife, a mother, a sister and a daughter, she said, adding “behind every great man there is a woman”.
Dr Saeeda said his ministry had set up a training centre in Karachi for village girls who were matric. The centre would give them a stipend of Rs1000 a month with free loading and boarding.
