Eight held for temple city blasts

LUCKNOW, March 10: Police detained eight people on Friday over bomb attacks that killed 15 people in one of Hinduism’s holiest cities and were later claimed by a group which said it was fighting Indian rule in Kashmir.

Police said two of those taken into custody matched police sketches based on information provided by a man who saw a bag being left outside his shop that was later found to contain a further bomb.

“Two of those detained have a striking resemblance to sketches of suspects released by the Varanasi police,” said Yashpal Singh, police chief of Uttar Pradesh state. The eight men were picked up from a local guest house in Hardoi.—Reuters
