Suspect arrested

BAHAWALPUR, March 9: The Civil Lines police arrested here on Thursday a man who, they believed, have links with Al Qaeda. The police did not disclose his name but affirmed that he had sent messages to India and other countries which were supposed to be sent to Osama bin Laden and the Pakistani leaders in exile.

Dawn learnt that the suspect was at an internet cafe at the Islamia University old campus chowk. As the cafe owner came to know about the misuse of internet, the suspect took to the heels.

According to another report, a police party conducted a raid at the internet cafe and gleaned information from the sites the suspect had surfed. It was learnt that the net user had tried to delete the suspicious record. The suspect was being interrogated in the Civil Lines police till last reports came in. When this correspondent tried to contact DPO Arif Nawaz, he was not available.
