GUJRANWALA, March 8: A scam involving issuance of fake intermediate certificates surfaced during the recruitment of educators at the EDO (education) office while police arrested an accused here on Wednesday.

Reports said a candidate for an educator’s slot in the district, Abdul Razaq, of Tetley produced his intermediate certificate with B grade to the recruiting authority. During the scrutiny, the certificate was found to be fake as the candidate had passed his intermediate examination in E grade according to the official record.

EDO (education) Raja Khadim Hussain conducted an inquiry into the matter and, on finding the candidate guilty, handed him over to police.

During the investigation, Razaq revealed that a gang led by an official of deputy-district education office, Wazirabad, was allegedly supplying fake certificates to the candidates.

A police party was conducting raids for the arrest of the gang leader and his accomplices.

BOOKED: As many as three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were booked for keeping a man in illegal custody here on Wednesday.

Reports said that SI Nadim Aslam, in charge of Alam Chowk post, along with two constables, picked one Muhammad Boota from his house for his alleged involvement in some petty crime and detained him without registration of any case.

A bailiff, on a writ petition filed with the district and sessions court, recovered the man and produced him in the court.

Judge Mazher Hussain summoned police officials in the court and got registered a case against them under section 342 and 334 PPC.

SHOs SUMMONED: Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 Judge Tariq Iftikhar issued show-cause notices to three SHOs for not submitting the charge sheets in various cases and summoned them for the next hearing on Wednesday.

Reports said the SHOs of Ghakkhar Town, Aimanabad and Cantonment areas had failed to submit the charge sheets in various cases in the court.

EXHIBITION: The ‘Made in Gujranwala’ exhibition at Gulshan Iqbal Park on the GT Road was an important source of promoting exports while the products on display were popular in South Asian countries, Africa and Europe, besides the Middle East.

This was stated by a Dutch metal trading company head, Alax Stoc, at the exhibition here on Wednesday.

He suggested that such exhibition of local industrial products should also be held in Holland to promote trade ties between the two countries.

Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice-president Azher Saeed Butt and Live Stock provincial secretary Baber Yaqoob also visited the exhibition.
