PESHAWAR, March 8: Speakers at a seminar in connection with the International Women’s Day said that women should be given their rights in accordance with Islamic values.

The seminar, titled ‘Role of Women in Human Development’, was arranged by the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department in Karak on Wednesday.

The convention was attended by dozens of elected women representatives and volunteers belonging to various development organizations and teachers.

The District Officer Education Miss Asmat Ara said: “Women’s rights must be based on Islamic values and what Islam provides for women. These values must be adopted in their true spirit.”

Terming education key to success, she said that only educated women could actively participate in the country’s development. Appreciating NCHD’s efforts towards the area’s development in education and health sectors, Asmat Ara said that the commission had educated thousands of school drop-outs along with ensuring health facilities at door-step to masses.

The assistant district programme manager of NCHD, Miss Nazma Khattak, said that women were an integral part of community and NCHD would make efforts to empower women and ensure their rights.
