Police official suspended

PESHAWAR, March 8: The city police chief has suspended a station house officer (SHO) of the Ormar police station on complaint of a citizen, says a press release issued here on Wednesday.

SHO Matani police station Zulfiqar Ali was suspended on the complaint of a resident of Matani area, said the release. However, it did not give details about the charges against the official.

Capital city police also initiated inquiry against him and said that if the SHO found involved in other unlawful activities, it would recommend termination of the official from service.

Meanwhile, police arrested two arms smugglers and recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition from their vehicle at Tapu checkpoint in Matani area on Wednesday.

On a tip-off, a team of senior police officials erected barricade at Tapu checkpoint and intercepted a car bearing registration No Sindh-BD

0282 and during the search recovered eight Kalashnikovs and 26,000 rounds from secret cavities.

Police arrested Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Zangali village of Matani area and Dilawar, a resident of same area of Dara Adamkhel.

According to the press release, the two smugglers were bringing arms and ammunition from Dara Adamkhel and wanted to smuggle them to Punjab.

Three highway robbers snatched Rs195,000 from a local trader and injured him when he tried to escape from their custody in Akhudabad area of Gulbahar No-5, a police official said on Wednesday.

Shafiullah, owner of a plastic factory, told Gulbahar police that on Tuesday he collected money from different shopkeepers and was on his way to home in Akhundabad. But he was stopped by three armed men near his house who snatched Rs195,000 from him.

The robbers later shot at Shafiullah’s leg when he tried to run away after being robbed. Police have registered a case against culprits.
