BAHAWALPUR, March 7: Students of the engineering college of the Islamia University boycotted their classes on Tuesday in protest against non-recognition of their college by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
The students started boycott of their classes after a failure of their talks with the vice-chancellor.
Some students said their future was bleak as the PEC had not recognised their college so far. They vowed to continue their protest till the acceptance of their demand.
They also appealed to the governor to intervene and use his good offices for the college’s recognition by the PEC.
The engineering college was established in 1999, and since then the PEC had not recognised it, saying it do not meet the required formalities.
Last year, the engineering students had protested against its non-recognition and the former VC had assured that steps were being taken to get it recognised by the PEC.
ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: A three-day anti-polio campaign was launched here on Tuesday.
The campaign aimed at administering polio vaccine to about 500,000 children by 1,238 teams in the district was launched by EDO (health) Dr Arshad Iqbal Dar and EDO (finance) Dr Raheel Ahmed Siddiqui.
