Talking about social media companies, IT Minister Umar Saif has stated that TV channels and newspapers are regulated in the country. Speaking on Geo News, he said, “At the moment, no law of the land has been established. Of course these companies are also not linked to our system.”
He said that this was a global issue, posing the question: “How should companies which are global in nature and are virtual in nature be dealt with?”
Giving the example of X(formerly Twitter), he went on to say that a small percentage of people used it but they were all “opinion makers”.
“That is why if you spread a rumour or incite violence — there should be some regulation for it,” he said. He further said that terrorist groups recruited on social media.
