FAISALABAD, March 3: The local police on Friday submitted the challan of a case registered against 11 people on the charge of kidnapping a boy.
Zaid Saleem was abducted by the accused to force his family to pardon the killer of his uncle Muhammad Riaz. The boy won the freedom after his family gave an undertaking to the accused that convict Saqib alias Saqi would be pardoned.
Last Monday, a lawyer of the convict had claimed that the family of slain Riaz had moved a written statement with a local court to pardon the convict. The court will take up the case on March 9.
Police sources said that the case was registered under section 364 PPC by the People’s Colony police on the report of SHO Khizar Hayat because the victim’s family, under pressure from the accused, had refused to file any complaint.
Of the 11 accused, police declared Ali Rizwan, a police constable, and four women innocent. Humayun and Muhammad Naseem have been sent to jail on judicial remand while four others — Shahzad, Binyamin, Asif and Kashif — have been declared absconders.
Sources said that the police would pursue the case as a challenge because it was an open secret that the victims had avoided to register the case due to the fear of the accused.
It may be noted here that the accused had abducted Zaid Saleem last month and freed him only last week after his family gave an assurance that Saqi would be pardoned.
In August last, the accused had abducted Asim Riaz, son of deceased Riaz, for the same purpose but the police recovered the boy in a few days.
