UC nazims told to help maintain peace

JACOBABAD, March 2: The District Police Officer of Jacobabad, Munir Ahmed Khuhro, and Rangers Col Ghouri held a meeting with the union councils’ nazims at the district police headquarters here on Thursday.

Speaking at the meeting, they said that Friday’s protest should be peaceful and appealed to them to cooperate in maintaining law and order situation in the district.

They said that the government had no objection on peaceful protest against blasphemous cartoons but no one would be allowed to take law in his own hands and violence would be dealt with severely.

The nazims assured them to play their role in maintaining law and order in the town.

The DPO said that US forces would stay here up to March 15, adding that joint air exercises were being conducted at the Shahbaz Airbase.

The district administration of Jacobabad had tightened security arrangement and about 100 check posts and pickets had been set up at main points and around the airbase.

A large number of law enforcement personnel, including army, rangers and police officials, have been deployed for security purpose.
